UP SIR: 2.89 crore names deleted, Lucknow lost 30 pc voters

In UP, 2.89 crore voters have been removed from the electoral rolls in the state, including 46 lakh voters who are dead. The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday published the draft electoral roll of Uttar Pradesh after the conclusion of the enumeration phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). The state electoral officer of Uttar Pradesh, Navdeep Rinva, informed that there are names of 12,55,56,025 voters in the draft voter list. He informed that 81.30 percent voters of the existing voter list filled their forms and registered their names for the new draft voter list. There were a total of 15 crores 44 lakh 30 thousand 92 voters in the existing voter list. However, forms from about 18.7 per cent of voters were not received, leading to the exclusion of 2.89 crore names from the draft rolls.

Among the voters whose name have been dropped include those deceased, around 46.23 lakh ( 2.99%), shifted 2.17 crore (14.06%), and duplicate voters 25.46 lakh (1.65%). “Genuine electors from the above can still be added back in electoral roll during the Claims and Objection period (06-01-2026 to 06-02-2026) by filling up Form-6 along with Declaration Form and other relevant documents,” the EC statement added. The final list will be published on March 6.

As per data,Lucknow has lost the maximum number of voters. When the SIR was announced, Lucknow had 39.9 lakh electors, which has now come down to 27.9 lakh-a reduction of 30 per cent. Similarly, in Lalitpur, 9.5 lakh electors were registered as of September 27, 2025, which has reduced to 8.6 lakh - down by 10%.
