In UP, electricity consumers will pay more from June. The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) on Saturday announced a hike of 10 per cent in electricity bills, citing a "fuel surcharge" due to the rising fuel prices due to West Asia conflict. As per Notification, The surcharge, known as the Fuel and Power Purchase Adjustment Surcharge (FPPAS), will be applied across all consumer categories in the June billing cycle. In a letter to distribution companies, Pankaj Saxena, Chief Engineer of the Regulatory Affairs Unit (RAU), said the surcharge is being imposed under the Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission's (UPERC) Multi-Year Tariff (MYT) Regulations, 2025, notified on March 26, 2025. "As per the regulation, any extra power purchase and transmission costs incurred in a given month are recovered after a delay of three months. This means the additional cost incurred in March 2026 will be recovered from consumers in June 2026", Saxena said.

Uttar Pradesh minister Narendra Kashyap reasoned that in the last nine years of Yogi Adityanath government, no taxes or bills were raised.
