Union Minister of State for Law and MP from Agra SP Singh Baghel will be BJP candidate against Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav from Karahal seat. Meanahile, Akhilesh Yadav filed his nomination papers on Monday from Karhal constituency in Mainpuri district UP Assembly polls. This seat has always been treated string hold of SP. In 2017 and 2012 Assembly polls party's Sobaran Singh Yadav was elected.Baghel had entered politics as president of the Mulayam Youth brigade and went on to win thrice as Samajwadi party MP from the now-merged Jalesar seat, now merged with Etah seat. Baghel was a close confidant of SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav and had twice contested against his family members, including Dimple and Akshay Yadav, and had lost on both occasions. Congress released its fifth list of UP Assembly Polls candidates. In this list six candidates are women. Of them Smt Gayatri Tiwari mother of jailed Ms Khushi Dubey in Vikas Dubey case, and daughter of famous Urdu Shayar Munauvar Rana are also included. Party has declared its 322 candidates for the poll. Of them 130 are women.

Main opposition Samajwadi Party ally Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party announced its two candidates for UP Assembly polls. In this list father and son have been included. Party Chief and strong critic of BJP Mr Om Prakash Rajbhar will contest from Zahoorabad seat in Ghazipur district. He was elected from same seat first time in 2017 polls. In 2012 elections Samajwadi Party leader Ms Shadab Fatima was elected. Rabhar's son and party's General Secretary Arvind Rajbhar will contest from Shivpur constituency in Varanasi district.

In UP, seven pgase polling will start from February 10. 58 assembly seats will go to poll in the first psahe.
