Twin tremors shake China's Qinghai Province

Two moderate earthquakes struck Xinghai County in northwest China's Qinghai Province within minutes of each other on Tuesday morning, according to the China Earthquake Networks Centre (CENC).
According to CENC,The first earthquake, measuring 5.7 in magnitude, hit Xinghai County at 11:16 a.m. local time (0316 UTC). Just 18 minutes later, a second quake of magnitude 5.8 struck the same area.Both earthquakes occurred at a shallow depth of 10 km (6.2 miles), which can often result in stronger shaking near the epicentre. The epicentres were located around 244 km from Xining, the capital of Qinghai Province.

There were no immediate reports of casualties, injuries or significant damage following the twin tremors. Authorities are assessing the situation, while emergency response teams remain on alert.Qinghai, situated on the northeastern edge of the Tibetan Plateau, is among China's most seismically active regions due to the movement of tectonic plates. The province has experienced several moderate and strong earthquakes over the years.Local authorities are continuing to monitor the affected area for any aftershocks or further seismic activity,reported agency.
