Trump willing to end Iran war without nuclear deal:Report

US President Donald Trump is willing to end the West Asia conflict without a deal on Tehran’s nuclear programme if the Strait of Hormuz is fully reopened, The Wall Street Journal reported. Rather than insisting on a full and final nuclear agreement, Trump's administration could accept the restoration of shipping through the key oil chokepoint as the basis for ending its military campaign in the region and extending the existing ceasefire, the report states. The report suggests that Trump has been laying the groundwork to declare victory in the West Asia conflict if Iran reopens the waterway. The US President has reportedly indicated that he is willing to end the war without a deal on Iran's nuclear programme, and has earlier floated the idea privately to his senior aides, the report cited US officials as saying.
In a separate phone interview with Channel 12 and Axios,  Donald Trump said Sunday that Washington was “low-keying” its approach to Iran and only “semi-negotiating” with the Islamic Republic, as it suffers in dire economic straits. According to report,Trump in the phone interview did not threaten Iran or rail against it for holding up the deal, which would give Iran unprecedented control over maritime traffic in the strait.
Trump’s comments came after Iran on Saturday laid out drastic new conditions for lifting the blockade on the Strait of Hormuz, which carried about one-fifth of the world’s commercial oil shipments until the US and Israel launched the war on Iran on February 28.
The US President's haste to end the conflict may also be owing to the upcoming midterm elections in America, scheduled to be held in less than three months' time. The price of gasoline, which is much higher than it was before the war started in late February, might be a cause of concern for Trump.
