Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed in Saturday’s airstrikes, marking the end of more than three decades at the helm of the Islamic Republic and closing a chapter in Iran’s modern history that many Iranians had long hoped to see concluded. US President Donald Trump announced on Saturday the death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Donald Trump called on the Iranian people to “seize” power. Iran’s state media says Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s daughter and grandchild were also killed in Israeli-US strikes. The Iranian Red Crescent said it had counted at least 201 dead and 747 wounded in a series of Israeli and US strikes against Iran.
Israel said Khamenei was killed along with top lieutenants including Ali Shamkhani, the powerful former National Security Council secretary, and Mohammad Pakpour, Islamic Revolutionary. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said there were strong indications that Khamenei "is no longer" and urged Iranians to “finish the job”. He said Khamenei's compound had been destroyed and that commanders of the Revolutionary Guard and senior nuclear officials were killed.
