Trump said in his social media post that he was calling off the planned strike at the request of allies in the Middle East, including the leaders of Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Trump has repeatedly set deadlines for Tehran and then backed off.Trump has threatened Iran for weeks, warning that time is running out. He also spoke recently with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and Chinese President Xi Jinping about the situation.
Trump's announcement also comes as Pakistan intensifies efforts to mediate between Tehran and Washington. According to reports, Islamabad has now delivered a revised 14-point Iranian peace proposal to the US through diplomatic backchannels.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baghaei, later confirmed that Tehran's updated position had indeed been conveyed to Washington through Pakistani mediation, though he declined to disclose details publicly. Iran's latest proposal again revolves around 14 points focused on ending the war.
