As US President Donald Trump cancelled meetings with Iranian officials over the deaths of protesters, Iran’s National Security Chief Ali Larijani called Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu the "main killers of the people of Iran" amid the country’s spiralling protests, which have killed at least 2,000 people. “We declare the names of the main killers of the people of Iran,” Larijani wrote. “1- Trump. 2- Netanyahu,” he said. Larijani said Washington and Tel Aviv were causing the unrest, which has now claimed the lives of many. Trump said the United States would take “very strong action” if Iran begins executing protesters.

President Donald Trump urged Iranian protesters to continue their demonstrations and promised that "help is on its way" without providing details. The statement comes amid reports that nearly 2,000 people have been killed in a crackdown following weeks of anti-government protests in Iran.
Iran's Defence Minister, Aziz Nasirzadeh, said that Tehran will strike back if the US attacks, "We will respond powerfully to any kind of attack against us and will not allow anyone to threaten us. All US bases in the region and countries that facilitate Washington's actions will be legitimate targets for us. Thanks to the measures we have taken, our defence situation is in good condition compared to the last war", he said.
