Thai ship attacked in Strait of Hormuz, US destroyed 16 Iranian vessels

A Thai ship was hit by unidentified projectiles in the Strait of Hormuz, causing and an explosion at the stern and fire in the engine room, Thailand’s transport ministry said on Wednesday. The Thai-flagged bulk carrier Mayuree Naree was struck off the northern coast of Oman amid the Iran war. The ministry said 20 crew members were rescued after abandoning the vessel in a lifeboat and were picked up by the Omani navy and three were still missing.
The vessel, Mayuree Naree, a bulk carrier owned by the Thai company Precious Shipping Pcl, had left Khalifa Port in the UAE and was headed to Kandla Port in India when it came under attack while transiting the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has claimed responsibility for the attack. The Royal Thai Navy said in a statement that "the specific details and cause of the attack are currently under investigation." As per the Royal Thai Navy statement, the ship is 178 metres long and displaces 30,000 tonnes.
Meanwhile, the US military said it destroyed 16 Iranian mine-laying vessels near the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday after President Donald Trump warned Tehran to remove any mines from the water, in video released by US Central Command.

The spokesman for Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters said Iran would target economic centers and banks belonging to the United States and Israel in the region, state media reported. Spokesman Ebrahim Zolfaghari said the warning came after what he said was a US and Israeli strike on one of Iran’s banks overnight. He said the move opened the way for Iran to target economic centers and banks linked to the United States and Israel across the region. “Americans should wait for our painful response,” Zolfaghari said. He also warned people in the region not to remain within one kilometer of banks.
