External Affairs Minister(EAM) S Jaishankar on Sunday urged that wars anywhere in the world threaten peace everywhere, citing growing global interdependence, and described terrorism as another deadly threat to international peace and security.
Addressing the Chinmaya Amrit Mahotsav Global Sammelan on the occasion of United Nations Day, Jaishankar called on the UN to take a stronger leadership role in tackling global crises rather than remaining a spectator. He also stressed the need to reform multilateral institutions to ensure more inclusive global decision-making.
#WATCH | Delhi: At the Chinmaya Amrit Mahotsav Global Sammelan on UN Day, EAM Dr. S. Jaishankar says, "We live in an imperfect world, but we all continuously strive towards greater perfection. Where the UN is concerned, that means recognizing its shortcomings and limitations, and seeking its improvement. The case for reformed multilateralism gets stronger by the day. Large parts of the world cannot be left out from decision-making. The UN must show leadership, not be a spectator to global crises. On this occasion, even as we recognize the need for such long-awaited changes, let us renew our commitment to work together. We are common, we are shared, we are united..."

Rejecting terrorism as an instrument of statecraft, the minister said its use was unacceptable and could never be justified or rationalised. He called for stronger international resolve to counter terrorism in all its forms.Highlighting the challenges facing developing countries, Jaishankar said the Global South was grappling with a ‘4Fs’ crisis involving finance, fuel, food and fertiliser. He urged countries to work together to reduce economic risks, diversify supply options and address market disruptions that worsen hardships.
#WATCH | Delhi: At the Chinmaya Amrit Mahotsav Global Sammelan on UN Day, EAM Dr. S. Jaishankar says, "The Global South today faces a 4F crisis of finance, fuel, food, and fertilizer. The Global North must realize that it has equal stakes in finding solutions. The international economy must be urgently de-risked, and nations provided with more diversified options. Market distortions through constriction and choke points only add to suffering. A genuine dialogue in this regard is overdue..." He adds, "Progress is understandably associated with the march of technology, and humankind now really stands at the crossroads. AI promises to be the mother of all change. But something so sweeping, something so consequential, it cannot be left in the hands of just a few. That would go counter to the trends of freedom and democratization that the world has seen over the last 80 years. For this reason, India is a strong advocate of a responsible, inclusive, and human-centric approach. That is a recognition of AI's universal applicability and of the need to develop a wider perspective."

Jaishankar also called for responsible and inclusive development of artificial intelligence, warning against concentrating its benefits and control in the hands of a few. He said technological progress must remain human-centric and contribute to shared prosperity, stressing that global progress cannot be achieved while large sections of humanity remain deprived.
