Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched blistering attack on the DMK and Congress, charging that their leaders "keep insulting women", while pointing out that the NDA schemes are aimed at empowering women. Addressing an election rally in Madurai on Friday, he said late Chief Minister M G Ramachandran's vision for inclusive development and prosperous society "inspires us." Modi said that the DMK and Congress had no agenda to talk about and alleged that the two parties, facing polls as allies, will not guarantee either safety or dignity for the people while the law and order situation will "suffer" under them.
Modi played the 'Jallikattu' card and said that when there was a DMK government in Tamil Nadu and a UPA government at the centre, they banned Jallikattu. An UPA minister said it is a barbaric practice... is that right? Is that how one speaks about an age-old tradition that is so important to Tamil culture? "After we came to power in 2014, it was the NDA government an "You all will remember how the DMK had spread the mafia in the state, just because of one family's internal politics. Such is the way in which they function. It was the AIADMK-NDA government that has ensured that the mafia in the state no longer exists," he added.d AIADMK in the state that ensured Jallikattu is not banned. Why? Because for us Tamil culture is important," he declared.Jallikattu - regarded as a symbol of Tamil pride.
Later, in Kerala's Pathanamthitta election rally PM Modi alleged that the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the United Democratic Front (UDF) promote dynasty politics. "They (LDF and UDF) promote dynasty politics, there is a craze for dynasty rule in both alliances, everything else is sidelined," he added. Modi said that access to drinking water is a problem in Kerala. "Only 25% of Kerala households had tap water supply before we started the Jal Jeevan Mission. Since it began, almost 20% households all over India got access to tapwater connections," he added. The election for 140-member Kerala Assembly in 14 districts will be held in a single phase on April 6. The counting of votes will be held on May 2.
