The Taliban has said that it wants good diplomatic ties with India. It said the first Regional Meeting on Afghanistan convened by India was in its better interest. Spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid also reiterated its stated policy that its land will not be used against any country. The meeting, held in New Delhi and chaired by National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, was attended by Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretary Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani, Russia’s Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev, and the Security Council Heads of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. Wednesday’s meeting was the first regional meeting on Afghanistan convened by India after 15th of August when the Taliban took control of the country.
Mujahid said that this conference is in the better interest of Afghanistan. We are optimistic because the whole region needs stability and security in Afghanistan, he added. Taliban didn’t have any anxiety about India’s conference. He expressed hope the outcome will be “utilised and implemented”, he said. MEA Spokesman Arindam Bagchi reiterated India's commitment to provide humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan.
