Player of the Match Suryakumar Yadav notched up his second T20I century, toying with the Kiwi bowlers while scoring 111 runs in just 51 balls. With this win, Team India have gained a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. For India, Deepak Hooda returned with four wickets. Suryakumar hit 7 sixes and 11 boundaries. His knock guided Team India to 191/6 in 20 overs. Ishan Kishan also played a knock of 36 runs off 31 balls.

Earlier, New Zealand captain Kane Williamson won the toss and opted to bowl first. The New Zealand captain's knock of 61 off 52 came under the scanner as he struggled to get going, putting pressure on the rest of the batting line-up. It was Southee's second hat-trick in T20I cricket. While reflecting on New Zealand's performance after the match, Williamson also showered praise on the Indian batter, who proved to be the difference maker in the second match of the three-match series.
