BJP legislature party leader Suvendu Adhikari on Saturday took oath as West Bengal’s first BJP chief minister.Governor RN Ravi administered the oath of office and secrecy to Adhikari at a grand ceremony held at the Brigade Parade Ground in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union ministers, chief ministers of NDA-ruled states and senior BJP leaders.

Senior BJP leaders including Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Ashok Kirtania, Nisith Pramanik and Kshudiram Tudu were inducted into the council of ministers.Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the swearing-in ceremony alongside Union ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, JP Nadda and Dharmendra Pradhan, besides several NDA chief ministers.
The BJP secured a massive mandate in the 2026 assembly elections, winning 207 seats, while the TMC was reduced to 80 after 15 years in power. Adhikari also delivered major personal victories by defeating Mamata Banerjee in Bhabanipur by over 15,000 votes and retaining Nandigram comfortably.Senior BJP leaders Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul and Ashok Kirtania are among those included in the new council of ministers as Suvendu Adhikari took oath as the chief minister of West Bengal on Saturday, heading the first BJP government in the state.
