In Sri Lanka, massive protests erupted on the roads of Colombo as people confronted security personnel while protesting against the exacerbating economic situation amid prevailing unrest in the island nation. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa was moved to the Army headquarters on Friday night following intelligence reports that the situation at Saturday's planned rally "would go out of control". Protesters from across the country arrived in buses, trains and trucks to Colombo.

Thousands of protesters broke through police barricades in Colombo and barged into the president's official residence Saturday,
"In my entire life I have never seen the country United like this with one goal to throw out a failed Leader. The writing is now on YOUR official house WALL. Please go in peace," Sanath Jayasuriya, a former cricketer, tweeted with #GoHomeGota. Sixteen MPs from Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) have requested the president to resign immediately.The country has sought a $3 billion bailout from the International Monetary Fund to ease the dollar drought.As the economic crisis in Maharashtra worsened, all the schools have been shut till July 15. Sri Lanka has temporarily shut down at least four state universities due to collapsing economy.
