Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on Saturday decided to resign after party leaders in Parliament demanded both he and the president Gotbaya Rajpaksa step down on the day protesters stormed the president's residence and office."To ensure the continuation of the Government including the safety of all citizens I accept the best recommendation of the Party Leaders today, to make way for an All-Party Government. To facilitate this I will resign as Prime Minister," PM Ranil Wickremesinghe tweeted.

Police and army personnel have been brought in to set up a security perimeter around the residence of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on 5th Lane. Meanwhile The Harbour Master confirmed that two Sri Lankan Navy ships SLNS Sindurala and SLNS Gajabahu left from the Colombo Port amid protests in crisis-hit Sri Lanka.
