A SpiceJet Bombardier Q400 turboprop flight (SG 2906) carrying 75 passengers lost an outer wheel shortly after taking off from Kandla airport but continued on to Mumbai. The aircraft made an emergency landing at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) at 3:51 p.m. and all 75 passengers and crew disembarked normally with no injuries, according to information. Eyewitnesses and air traffic controllers said a large object was seen falling from the right side of the aircraft just after lift-off. Video captured by a passenger on board shows the wheel detaching from the plane, with the narrator heard exclaiming “The wheel has fallen.” Airport crews later confirmed that the missing part was one of the plane’s outer wheels and its metal mounting rings. Ground vehicles retrieved the detached wheel assembly and hardware from the Kandla runway.

In a statement, SpiceJet confirmed the incident and said the flight continued to Mumbai as planned. “On September 12, an outer wheel of a SpiceJet Q400 aircraft operating from Kandla to Mumbai was found on the runway after takeoff. The aircraft continued its journey to Mumbai and landed safely. Following a smooth landing, the aircraft taxied to the terminal under its own power, and all passengers disembarked normally,” the airline’s spokesperson said.
Mumbai airport officials said a full emergency was declared as a precaution when the flight arrived. The CSMIA statement noted that “an aircraft from Kandla made an emergency landing at CSMIA at 15:51 hrs on 12 September 2025 after reporting a technical issue. A full emergency was declared as a precaution. The aircraft landed safely on Runway 27, and all passengers and crew are safe. Normal operations resumed shortly after”.Fire and rescue teams were kept on standby at Mumbai airport during the landing.
This mid-air scare follows a similar incident in 2023. In July 2023, a SpiceJet Boeing 737 flight from Dubai to Kochi suffered a tyre burst on landing. The airline reported that the tyre damage was discovered after the aircraft had safely touched down, and no injuries were reported to passengers or crew
