South Korea:Lee Jae-myung elected as DP's presidential candidate

South Korea’s ruling Democratic Party has selected Lee Jae-myung, as its candidate for the Presidential Election next March. Presently he is the governor of Gyeonggi Province. Lee Jae-myung defeated his rival Lee Nak-yon. Of the total 1,431,593 votes cast by both DP members and the public, Lee Jae-myung won 719,905 votes, or 50.29 percent. The Democratic Party, which supports President Moon Jae-in, announced the final results of its presidential primaries in the Capital, Seoul on Sunday. The primaries were conducted at 11 locations across South Korea.  The party says, Lee gained an overall majority. Lee has gained popularity among voters who say his policies are easy to understand.

Lee argues that the country’s wealth gap can be resolved by introducing a universal basic income to guarantee a minimum level of economic prosperity.Lee said in a televised address immediately following his nomination. "My first objective, if I am elected president, would be to help Korea take the lead in fighting climate change, the global pandemic and the ever-speedy technological revolution. My second objective would be to help this nation achieve economic growth during this time of great struggle. When it comes to policies to boost the people's welfare and well-being, there is no left or right; there is no ideological differences. I am ready to try anything and everything if it means the people can lead better livelihoods."
