In Tokyo Paralympics, India on Monday got the first Gold medal when Avani Lekhara won gold in women's 10m Air Rifle Standing (SH1) event. The Indian shooter scored a Paralympics record of 249.6 to win the gold medal. China's Cuiping Zhang won silver with 248.9 and Ukraine's Iryna Shchetnik took bronze with a total of 227.5. This is India's fourth medal at the Tokyo Paralympic Games so far.
Avani qualified for the final finishing 7th in the qualification round with a total score of 621.7. Avani staged a good recovery after a slow start to advance to the finals of the showpiece event. She registered good scores of 104.9, 104.8 in her third and fourth attempt to be in the game before scoring 104.1 in the final round of qualification. The Indian shooter will now lock horns in the finals of the showpiece event.Yogesh Kathuniya bagged silver in the Men’s Discus Throw F56 event. He produces a season-best performance of 44.38m in his 6th and last attempt in the Men’s Discus Throw F56 Final.
India's Devendra Jhajharia won the silver medal in the men's javelin throw - F46 final event on Monday at the Tokyo Paralympics with his best throw of 64.35, while Sundar Singh Gurjar won the bronze medal in the same event with his best throw of 64.01. The duo took India's total medal tally at the Paralympics 2020 Games to seven.
