Indian weightlifter Gyaneshwari Yadav won silver medal in the women’s 53kg event. Making her Commonwealth Games debut, the 23-year-old weightlifter from Chhattisgarh delivered an impressive performance to secure the silver medal with a total lift of 199kg, comprising 88kg in the snatch and 111kg in the clean and jerk. The effort marked her personal best in both the total and clean and jerk categories.
National record holder Sarvesh Kushare scripted history as he became the first Indian to win a silver medal in the men's high jump event in the Commonwealth Games. The 31-year-old Indian cleared 2.25m to clinch the silver with Romaine Beckford of Jamaica taking the gold late on Monday night. After sailing over 2.25m, both Kushare and Beckford failed to clear 2.28m. But the Jamaica was adjudged the gold winner on countback, as Kushare settled for the silver. The bronze went to Jack Kimani (2.20m) of England.
Indian weightlifter Bindyarani Devi Sorokhaibam clinched the bronze medal in the women’s 58kg event at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow on Monday, extending India’s impressive run in weightlifting and taking the country’s overall medal tally to six. The 27-year-old lifter from Manipur finished with a total lift of 199kg, comprising 87kg in the snatch and 112kg in the clean and jerk, to secure her second consecutive Commonwealth Games medal after winning silver in the 55kg category at the Birmingham 2022 Games.
