Alankrita Sahai has always been a hustler and a go-getter in the true sense of the term. Her indomitable spirit powered by her ability to achieve excellence by tapping her stupendous potential has helped her achieve tremendous results for herself and the rest is history. From starting off as a model and beauty pageant expert all over the country to eventually cementing her niche in the Indian entertainment industry as an actress, Alankrita Sahai has certainly come a long way forward in her career. While Jammu & Kashmir as a region is known to have produced some of the most wonderful beauties in the country, the place has always unfortunately lagged behind when it comes to empowering young women with beauty and helping them conquer their fears with a purpose. Well, given such a social-political environment, it is certainly a matter of history that this beautiful state had their inaugural 'Miss Universe' beauty pageant. And well, what when the first season happens, who truly is a judge better than Alankrita Sahai to guide and empower those stunning beauties? Yes, that's right. Alankrita Sahai felt like being on cloud nine when she was invited and honoured as the judge of the inaugural 'Miss Universe - Jammu & Kashmir' beauty pageant that was held in the state and it truly was a monumental occasion for the region.
Regarding her being the judge of the first season, Alankrita shares and we quote,"As an individual who's always believed in positivity and women empowerment in the right direction, I couldn't have been happier. It's my honour and privilege to be here judging the potential of these wonderful beauties from this part of the globe. I truly believe that if the right potential can be tapped, these women have the wings to fly and conquer the globe and as a judge and mentor, my key responsibility has been to give wings to those beautiful dreams and ask them to fly without worrying too much about the environment. Due to reasons beyond control, Jammu and Kashmir, as a state has primarily been in the news for other reasons and hence, if my presence in such a beautiful initiative propels these young women towards empowerment and helps them achieve their ambitions, there's nothing really better than that. I am happy and extremely glad to have been here doing this alongside someone equally wonderful like Sana Dua. More power to all these girls and to every other girl who dreams."

UNHR awardee Sheena Chohan calls for safety for woman by educating boys

In light of the recent incident in Kolkata with regards to Women’s Safety, Sheena Chohan, a freedom Fighter, who was awarded the Human Rights Hero Award at the United Nations, has called for mandatory human rights education in all schools in India, to educate boys to give women respect. Sheena, who was the first Indian that the United Nations High Commissioner on Human Rights, Volker Türk, reached out to help promote human rights in India, said:
“The main issues that makes life difficult for women in India is safety and the way we solve that is through educating boys to give women respect. Discrimination is a big problem that women face – many boys are taught that the only use for a woman is house-work and making babies, so they do not respect women and then tragedies occur. Boys only commit crimes like this because they do not believe women deserve respect.
The Indian Constitution is one of the greatest in the world and its central point is equality – when boys are educated that girls and women are equal to men, they know that they must respect them. But this education has to start young, it has to be thorough and it has to be everywhere. It starts with Awareness of basic rights and equality. Human Rights education is the solution to teach boys respect, but it must be given in line with The New National Education Policy (NEP). If we teach boys to memorize the Constitution, without understanding it, we achieve nothing – we have to ensure they understand all the words and can demonstrate the principles in every line! Boys must understand why girls deserve respect, what they must do to show girls respect and what the consequences are if they don’t give girls and women respect, and the tool to achieve that is mandatory human rights education.”
Sheena Chohan was awarded the Hero Award at the United Nations for spreading awareness of basic rights and equality to over 175 million people in South Asia. Sheena reached so many people by creating a podcast called Born Free & Equal where she put on events, including one called SAFETY, EQUALITY & RESPECT with Preety Zinta, Guneet Monga and Rohini Iyer. At that event in Mumbai, Sheeena and her guests brought up how awareness of and education in the Indian Constitution is the answer to these major issues facing women today.

Heinous crime in Kolkata: Celebrities speak out, Demand harsh punishment for offenders

The recent rape case in Kolkata has sent shockwaves across the nation, highlighting a horrifying crime committed within the confines of a government hospital—a place one would expect to be a sanctuary of safety. The brutal nature of the assault has not only ignited widespread outrage but has also prompted a powerful response from public figures and celebrities alike. This incident raises urgent questions about the safety of women in public spaces and the need for systemic changes to prevent such atrocities in the future.
Ekta Tiwari
A little food for thought: I believe that the most masculine men have the courage to love, while men who are insecure or hollow in their masculinity desire to be worshiped. In the recent Kolkata doctor rape case, neither of these theories applies. To fulfill either, one must first be a man. For eras—not just decades or years—such heinous crimes have occurred, and we protest, scream for justice, conduct rallies, candle marches, and more. But in the end, what do we or our society gain? A long wait for justice, or perhaps people get tired, leave, and eventually forget over time. Why can't we have a system of immediate justice that punishes hanging until death, right then and there? This would serve as a real lesson for those with a criminal or psychopathic mindset, and ensure that society and the victims' families receive justice, along with peace and belief in the law and the constitution.
Rinku Ghosh
The crime in the Kolkata hospital last week exposed the alarming security risks faced by medical staff in many of India's state-run health facilities. Let’s not forget a similar case at Mumbai’s King Edward Memorial Hospital, where nurse Aruna Ramachandra was raped and then strangled by the same hospital ward boy, leaving her in a semi-comatose state. If a woman is not safe in the workplace even after 78 years of independence, then we need to be ashamed—no matter the field of work. In rape cases, the accused should be immediately given the death penalty without any hearing. India should become intolerant towards any rape cases, regardless of age or gender. How many more Nirbhayas do we need before we become truly intolerant towards rape?
Hansa Singh
The safety of women is paramount in any state, country, or society, whether at home, the workplace, or anywhere she is. This outrageous and heinous crime must be the last one. How many more Nirbhayas does this country need? Men, what is wrong with you in general? Why? Why? Why? Strict laws exist, but what is needed is their implementation by those in power. We always say that the value system of society starts at home. So, the upbringing of men begins with their mothers and then the family. What values are being instilled? From birth, girls and women are subjected to such heinous crimes. Please, I urge everyone to teach their sons to respect women, to treat them as equals, and not as objects of desire. Every case that emerges shakes society to its core. But the answer lies within. There must be strict punishment for the accused to set an example, and these cases should not be stretched out for years.
Sherleen Dutt
The Kolkata rape case is a devastating reminder of the deep-rooted issues of violence against women that still plague our society. My heart aches for the victim and her family, and I stand with every voice demanding justice. As someone who believes in the power of justice and the importance of protecting the dignity of every individual, I feel a profound anger and sadness over such atrocities. These heinous acts are not just crimes; they are a brutal assault on our collective humanity. The offenders must face the full force of the law, and their punishment should serve as a powerful deterrent to anyone who might consider committing such horrendous acts. There is no room for leniency in cases like this. These offenders should be punished severely, ensuring that justice is not only served but is seen to be served. The scars they leave on the victim and society as a whole run deep, and our legal system must reflect the seriousness of these crimes. We need to come together as a society to demand swift and decisive action. Silence is not an option, and complacency is a crime in itself. It’s time we stand strong, united, and ensure that justice is delivered without delay.
Prince Dhiman
The country has not learned anything. It’s always easy to blame the government for everything. The government has its own role, but as a society, we are moving toward brutality. There are rapes everywhere—from minor girls to doctors. This is shameful for us. A place she thought was safe has become dangerous. Where are we heading as a society? How can people be so monstrous? Justice should be delivered swiftly. We also need to reflect on our own role in society. It’s so painful that even after being literate and progressing, people remain the same.
Khushi Bhardwaj
The Kolkata rape case has deeply shocked and saddened many people because it involved a horrific crime that resulted in the death of the victim. This tragedy has not only highlighted the brutal nature of such crimes but also sparked significant public outcry. It is encouraging to see celebrities and public figures coming together to speak out against such violence. Their involvement is vital in raising awareness, influencing public opinion, and pressuring authorities to take strong action. In cases like this, where the victim has tragically lost their life, it is essential that the perpetrators receive severe and appropriate punishment. This means imposing strict penalties, such as long prison sentences or life imprisonment. Such measures are crucial not only to ensure that justice is served but also to demonstrate that society will not tolerate such heinous acts. Moreover, while the legal system must address the offenders, it is equally important to provide support and care for the victim's family, who are left to cope with the aftermath of this tragedy. Preventing future violence requires a comprehensive approach, including better education on consent and respect, as well as societal changes to challenge harmful attitudes and behaviors. Overall, the focus should be on ensuring justice for the victim, supporting their loved ones, and working to create a safer environment for everyone.
Seema Kapoor
Every hour, a minimum of three women are raped, and it's a shame that governments are unable to take strict measures to end such heinous crimes. Instead, certain state ministers collude with criminals, protecting them rather than safeguarding women. We talk of a progressive India, but who will protect women from such monsters? Unless a law is passed to castrate rapists and ultimately sentence them to death, I don't think this grave situation will ever improve. Who needs other reforms and laws if this major crime is not tackled once and for all by severely punishing rapists, so that in the future they think twice before taking such a hideous step?
Manmohan Tiwari
As an advocate, I have studied many crimes. Crimes fall into different categories, and some are particularly severe. For such crimes, there should be judgments that set an example for years to come, instilling fear in anyone who might even think of committing them. I believe the judiciary system must treat these crimes as the rarest of the rare. Whether it’s the Nirbhaya case or the Kolkata case, there should be severe punishment. In the society where we live, women are our mothers, daughters, and sisters. Such crimes must not be acceptable in any part of the world, and they shouldn't even be conceivable. These offenders must be tortured and hanged until death.
Charul Malik
It feels both unsettling and ironic to discuss women's safety when an incident like this has occurred in a government hospital—a place that typically remains crowded and bustling with activity 24/7. The fact that such a horrific crime could take place in a setting where one would assume there is a constant presence of staff and patients only adds to the sense of insecurity. This incident has undoubtedly shaken the confidence of many, particularly women who work in such environments. The fear and anxiety that this incident has instilled will likely make it incredibly challenging for women to feel safe working during the night hours or even in the daytime, knowing that even a crowded hospital is not a guarantee of safety. As I am currently in Kolkata, I am witnessing firsthand the public outcry and the protests led by doctors and medical staff. The atmosphere here is charged with anger and frustration, as people are rightfully demanding justice.

Saira Banu:The most precious gift I've ever received

Saira Banu: The most precious gift I've ever received? A heartfelt compliment from Dilip Kumar that changed my life forever! On a magical evening at my home, he walked in, held my hand, and said, "My, you have grown up into a beautiful girl." Time stood still. Little did I know, it was the start of our beautiful love story.
Growing up, birthdays were always special, thanks to the abundance of love and support from my grandmother, Shamshad Waheed Khan, my loving mother, Pari Chehra Naseem Banuji, and the guidance of my elder brother, Sultan. Their blessings and values have shaped me into the person I am today, and I'm forever grateful.
On August 23rd, 1966, we celebrated my birthday and the housewarming of our new home, thoughtfully chosen and built near Dilip Sahib's house. Among many options, we selected this location to be close to him, unknowingly paving the way for our future together. He surprised me by flying in from Madras, and his words sparked a bond that would last a lifetime. From wide-eyed fan to devoted wife, I've been fortunate to experience the many facets of this incredible human being. His understated elegance and kindness have touched my heart in ways I never thought possible.
Today, as I celebrate another birthday, I'm overwhelmed with love and gratitude from kind-hearted people who have showered me with affection. Yet, amidst the joy, my heart yearns for the one person who made every day feel like a celebration - Dilip Sahib. I wish he was here to hold my hand, smile at me, and make this day unforgettable.Though he's not physically present, his love and legacy live on in my heart. I'm grateful for our time together and cherish the memories we created. This birthday, I look forward to reliving them forever by sharing stories of my beloved with you all through my Instagram page.
