In Belgium, several people have died after a fire tore through a construction site in the capital vity Brussels on Tuesday. According to reports, an unspecified number of bodies were discovered inside one of two lift shafts at the large-scale renovation project on Place de Brouckere in Brussels.According to the local fire brigade, at least 200 workers had been on the site when the fire broke out.The spokesperson for the local labour inspection service, Brecht Speybrouck informed a news agency that a total of six workers were unaccounted for and that it was unclear what had caused the fire. Flames allegedly went through the elevator shafts and caused a new blaze in an underground floor after the initial fire was contained. the firefighters said.

According to Belgian broadcaster VRT, citing the fire brigade, an initial fire on the lower floors of the building was brought under control relatively quickly. However, flames travelling through the lift shafts sparked a fresh fire on an underground floor, complicating rescue efforts and delaying access to the trapped workers.
