The domestic share market indices Sensex and Nifty ended the Muhurat Trading session 2025 the first trading session of Samvat 2082 on a slightly positive note on Tuesday. The hour-long special trading window, conducted between 1:45 pm and 2:45 pm, marked the ceremonial beginning of the new Hindu calendar year for investors. At 2:45 pm, the Sensex settled 63 points higher at 84,426, and the Nifty closed 25 points higher at 25,838.80. About 2,732 shares advanced, 898 shares declined, and 152 shares were unchanged.
During the session, the benchmark indices extended their winning streak for the fifth consecutive day, though gains remained modest. Volatility was evident throughout the session as traders opted for profit booking after markets opened at fresh 52-week highs. The Sensex, which initially rallied sharply, slipped nearly 250 points from its intraday peak, while the Nifty trimmed 66 points from its high.Despite the late session fluctuations, investor sentiment remained broadly positive, with market participants viewing the Muhurat session as an auspicious start to the new Samvat year. Analysts noted that the resilience in equities reflected optimism around India’s strong macroeconomic fundamentals, corporate earnings outlook, and expectations of continued foreign inflows.
Cipla, Bajaj Finserv, Axis Bank, Infosys, Grasim were the top gainers on the Nifty, while losers included Kotak Mahindra Bank, ICICI Bank, HCL Technologies, Max Healthcare, Asian Paints. Among sectors, metal, media, telecom up 0.3% each. The BSE midcap index rose 0.2 percent and smallcap index added nearly 1 percent.
