Security forces destroy Maoist weapons factory in Chhattisgarh forest

Security forces in Chhattisgarh have destroyed a Maoist weapons manufacturing unit hidden deep inside the forests of Sukma district, marking a significant breakthrough in ongoing anti-insurgency operations. The operation led to the recovery of 17 firearms and a large cache of materials used to produce weapons, officials said on Tuesday.A team from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) launched the operation on Monday in the dense Gomguda forest area, uncovering a makeshift Maoist weapons factory. The team seized 17 firearms, including a Barrel Grenade Rocket Launcher (BGRL), six Barrel Grenade Launchers (BGLs), six 12-bore rifles, three single-shot rifles, and one country-made pistol.
In addition to the weapons, the forces confiscated a significant quantity of manufacturing equipment including two 12-bore rifle barrels, two single-shot rifle barrels, a large hand-drill machine, 17 bench vises, three BGL barrels, two BGL body covers, electric wire, iron pipes, and other materials commonly used for assembling and repairing firearms.
Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan said that the operation highlights the ongoing commitment of security forces to dismantle Maoist infrastructure and restore normalcy in affected areas. “The objective of operations by security forces is not only to dismantle Maoist infrastructure but to establish lasting peace and development in the region. Those who wish to give up arms and return to society will be assured of a dignified life under the government’s rehabilitation policy,” he stated.The destruction of the weapons unit is part of intensified counter-Maoist operations being conducted across south Chhattisgarh. The coordinated offensive aims to eliminate the Maoist network by March 31, 2026, in line with the state and central government’s long-term security strategy.Officials noted that the latest action follows a series of surrenders by Maoist cadres in recent months, reflecting the growing success of security campaigns and the increasing appeal of government rehabilitation programs in the region.The Sukma operation, police said, has dealt a severe blow to the Maoists’ ability to locally manufacture weapons and sustain their armed activities in the Bastar region.
