Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday, after his meeting with President Xi Jinping, that India-China relations "should not be seen through a third country lens”. “The two leaders deemed it necessary to expand common ground on bilateral, regional, and global issues and challenges, like terrorism and fair trade in multilateral platforms,” a statement by India's ministry of external affairs (MEA) said, stressing the Asian neighbours' “strategic autonomy”. India and China are set to resume direct flights for the first time since the pandemic, in signs of a thaw in relations amid rising global trade uncertainties.
Later Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife, Peng Liyuan, hosted a banquet in the port city to welcome international guests ahead of the 25th edition of the annual summit. This year, apart from the regular SCO members - China, Russia, India, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Iran, and Belarus - non-member states, including Observer States, Dialogue Partners, and invited guests, are also attending the summit. In addition, representatives of major international organisations such as the United Nations, ASEAN, and the Commonwealth of Independent States attended at the SCO Summit.
