Russia strikes main govt building in Kyiv, 2 killed

A fire has broken out at a group of buildings housing Ukraine’s cabinet in central Kyiv amid a massive Russian drone strike on the capital city. Russia launched a record number of 805 drones and 13 missiles on Ukrainian cities, according to the Ukrainian air force. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said, 2 killed, 17 injured in Russia's overnight attack on Kyiv. Multiple residential buildings were struck as well as the Cabinet of Ministers building in central Kyiv.Officials reported that a fire broke out at the Cabinet of Ministers building in the central Pecherskyi district, the first time a government building has been hit in such an attack.

Mayor Klitschko reported that Russian drone debris had struck three multi-story residential buildings in the Sviatoshynskyi district of Kyiv, and another in the Darnytskyi district, leading to fires at the buildings.Multiple car fires have also been reported in the Sviatoshynskyi district as well as a fire at multiple warehouses. Ukraine's cabinet of ministers building, the seat of the government in Kyiv, was damaged in the strike, Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko. "The roof and upper floors were damaged due to an enemy attack. Rescuers are extinguishing the fire," she posted on Telegram. Explosions were heard in various cities across Ukraine, including Kyiv, Odesa, Kremenchuk, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Kryvyi Rih, and Zaporizhzhia, amid a long-lasting drone attack. Ukraine's Air Force later warned around 4 a.m. local time that Russia had launched several missiles towards Ukraine.

Russian forces occupy around 20 percent of Ukrainian territory in total.Tens of thousands have been killed in three and a half years of fighting, which has forced millions from their homes and destroyed much of eastern and southern Ukraine in Europe's bloodiest conflict since World War II.
