Home Minister Sanghvi reiterated the government’s “zero-tolerance” policy towards drugs, stressing that the state is determined to uproot drug networks and protect the youth from addiction. “The Gujarat government has taken a major step today, strengthening its resolve for a drug-free Gujarat. This is not just about destroying narcotics but also about safeguarding the future of our young generation,” he said.As part of the initiative, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) was officially inaugurated. Based in Gandhinagar, it will operate through six zonal offices with around 213 trained officers and staff dedicated exclusively to narcotics-related offenses. The force will focus on dismantling supply chains and targeting repeat offenders.
Several new measures were also announced during the event, including the strengthening of the Mentor Project, which currently monitors over 2,640 narcotics accused released on bail through 1,978 police mentors. The state government also committed to enhancing the 1933 helpline, ensuring that information related to drug trafficking directly reaches the minister’s office through the central “Mannas” system. In addition, the Mental Health Helpline will be expanded to provide rehabilitation support and guidance to young people struggling with addiction.
To recognize efforts in the state’s anti-drug campaign, 92 police officers who cracked seven major narcotics cases were felicitated with awards worth ₹29.67 lakh under the government’s Reward Policy.Sanghvi underlined that the campaign was inspired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s call for a “Drug-Free India”, highlighting Gujarat’s commitment to intensify its crackdown on drug trafficking networks. “We will continue to take strict legal action against those involved in the drug trade while also supporting rehabilitation and awareness efforts to save our youth,” he added.
