Rohit Sharma is set to lead Team India in the upcoming one-day international series against Sri Lanka. Wicket-keeping batter Rishabh Pant has been rested while pacer Umran Malik has been called up. Opener Shikhar Dhawan has been axed from the ODI squad for the Sri Lanka series, being replaced by Shubman Gill. Meanwhile, Pant has been rested from both the ODI and T20I series. However, the hard-hitting Suryakumar Yadav returns to the fray after being rested for India’s ODI series against Bangladesh. Pant has been asked to report at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for a knee strengthening rehabilitation programme for two weeks. Hence, he will miss the entire Sri Lanka series. But BCCI's statement doesn't mention whether he has been rested or dropped.
Rohit Sharma (C), Hardik Pandya (VC), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Mohammad Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Umran Malik, Arshdeep Singh. India is set to face Sri Lanka in a three-match T20I series, followed by a three-game ODI series, starting January 3, 2023. The ODI series will start on January 10 and will see Guwahati host the first match, followed by the second match in Kolkata, with the final game of the series being played at Thiruvananthapuram.
