A division bench of the Rajasthan High Court on Thursday disposed off a petition filed in the case regarding the merger of six BSP MLAs with the Congress. The Court left the decision to the single bench hearing the case. It has asked a single bench to adjudicate the matter on August 11 when the next hearing in the case will be held. This is being seen as temporary relief to CM, Ashok Gehlot and the Congress. However, his fate will be decided by the outcome of the Court. If there is a freeze on the merger, Gehlot's numbers will drop and he will have a tougher fight on his hands in case of a trust vote.
BJP and BSP had approached the Rajasthan High Court in connection. Two otherbpetitions were earlier filed against the merger of six BSP MLAs with Congress last year. The Rajasthan HC had dismissed the plea after the legislator’s counsel Harish Salve told the court that his client was informed by the Speaker’s secretariat that an order dismissing his client’s complaint has been passed and as such the writ petition has become infructuous and we need to file a fresh petition challenging that order,
BSP candidates Sandeep Yadav, Wajib Ali, Deepchand Kheria, Lakhan Meena, Jogendra Awana and Rajendra Gudha had contested the 2018 assembly elections successfully on their party tickets and they all had defected to the Congress in September 2019.
