Torrential rain in northern part of Karnataka has disrupted the normal life in more than six districts. Kalaburgi district is worst hit as the rivers and tanks are overflowing. Bridges have submerged blocking the traffic in many parts of the district. Jevargi town is almost submerged and residents are fleeing to safer places. This down pour started a week back and rain fury is continuing. Many have lost their lives apart from loosing their houses.
Added to agony of the people, Maharashtra has opened its flood gates making rivers like Bhima, Krishna flowing above the danger mark.Affected people have been shifted to camps in places like Yadagiri. Roads have become rivers and crops in thousands of acres of cultivated lands has washed away. Scarcity of toor dal has hiked its prices to Rs 150 per kg. In Bidar district Karanja dam is full which was empty since last 4 years. In Vijayapura district all the major rivers are in spate. The situation is equally worst in Dharwad, Belagavi, Raichur districts.
According to information, B S Yediyurappa, Chief Minister has send the district in- charge ministers in affected areas. Suitable action will be taken on compensation for the damages, he said. Talking to reporters in Banguluru, the CM informed that the govt gas released the nacessay funds for relief work.
