Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Thursday slammed the Modi Government in Colombia. He was speaking at an event at the EIA University. Highlighting the importance of a democratic system in a diverse nation, he said that India faces "structural flaws." He alleged, "In India, we have a huge level of corruption at the centralised level. Three or four businesses are taking over the whole economy, having a direct relationship with the Prime Minister, and it is rampant in India."

Gandhi says, "The government demonetised the currency with an idea to get rid of cash, but it didn’t work. As a policy, it was a big failure. The forcible conversion of the informal economy into the formal economy is problematic. There is a reason the informal economy exists. If you use harsh tools to remove it, you hurt people. I know there is a corruption element to the informal economy, but there is also non-corruption."
"Currently, there is a wholesale attack on this democratic system, and that is a major risk. Another big risk is the tension between different conceptions in parts of the country. With 16-17 major languages and many religions, it is crucial to allow these diverse traditions to thrive and give them the space they need," he added.Gandhi also attacked the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s partnership, saying "cowardice" was at the heart of their ideology.
