Quad Sherpas meet in Delhi to strengthen Indo-Pacific cooperation

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on Thursday hosted a meeting of Quad Sherpas in the national capital, with discussions centred on maritime and transnational security, economic prosperity, critical and emerging technologies, and humanitarian assistance and disaster response (HADR).
According to agency reports, the meeting was attended by Australian Deputy Secretary Elly Lawson, Japan’s Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Hiroyuki Namazu and US Special Envoy to South and Central Asia and Ambassador to India Sergio Gor.The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the meeting followed the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in New Delhi in May. It was convened to advance the outcomes of that meeting and prepare for the next ministerial-level talks.
The Sherpas reviewed the progress of ongoing Quad initiatives and explored ways to deepen practical cooperation among the four member countries — India, Australia, Japan and the United States.
According to the MEA, the discussions covered key areas of cooperation, including maritime and transnational security, economic prosperity and security, critical and emerging technologies, and humanitarian assistance and emergency response.The representatives also exchanged views on developments in the Indo-Pacific region, along with wider regional and global issues.
The MEA said the Sherpas stressed the importance of pursuing “concrete, action-oriented initiatives” and continuing consultations ahead of the next Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.
Following the meeting, the MEA said the officials welcomed the momentum in Quad-level engagements and practical activities while reviewing progress under key cooperation pillars.The Sherpas also considered possible new initiatives that could be announced at the upcoming Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.

US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor said the meeting focused on developing an action plan centred on concrete outcomes.“The Quad is moving forward with clear purpose.He said the effort was aimed at advancing the commitment of US President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio towards a strong and results-oriented Quad.

The latest Sherpas’ meeting comes as India, Australia, Japan and the US continue efforts to expand practical cooperation across multiple sectors and strengthen their collective contribution towards a free, open, inclusive, prosperous and resilient Indo-Pacific.
