Bangladesh Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni has said that it is essential to bring the Qawmi madrasas under the registration process of the government. Speaking in the parliament on Sunday, Minister Dipu Moni said that it was essential to make a time-befitting educational system for religious educational system and bring those under the government registration process, reports the UNB. Dr. Dipu Moni said that the issue of policy formulation about Qawmi madrasas and combining the currently running six separate boards under one board is under consideration of the government. Bangladesh has over 19,000 Qawmi madrasas in the country. She said, the issue of formulation of a policy and formation of a single Qawmi Education Board combining the existing six separately-run boards is under the government’s review.
Meanwhile, the COVID 19 pandemic continued to show an upward trend in Bangladesh with the sample positivity rate reaching 31.29 percent on Sunday. According to the latest bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 14 deaths and 10,906 new cases of coronavirus were reported from the country over the last 24 hours on Sunday. The country has reported over 30 percent positivity for the first time since July last year. Some places like Chattogram reported an even higher positivity rate of 38.64 percent. Meanwhile, the DGHS has said that the Omicron variant is gradually replacing the Delta variant through community transmission in Bangladesh. It said that the COVID infection started rising in Bangladesh again from the end of December leading to rising number of patients in the hospital. Bangladesh Secretariat has banned visitors entry into the premises in view of the resign cases of COVID 19 in the country. The government has already closed the educational institutions for two weeks upto February 6.
