Counting of votes for the 2026 Puducherry Assembly elections is underway, with early trends indicating an advantage for the AINRC-led NDA as it seeks a second consecutive term in the Union Territory.
According to initial trends, the NDA is leading in 11 seats, while the Congress is ahead in 3 constituencies. As of 11:25 a.m., the ruling All India N.R. Congress (AINRC) was leading in 8 seats, its ally Bharatiya Janata Party in 2, while the Indian National Congress, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam were leading in one seat each. Independent candidates were ahead in three constituencies.

As per the counting in the initial rounds, the AINRC is leading in ten constituencies while the Congress is ahead in five, in a close contest in the UT.

Chief Minister N. Rangasamy is leading from the Thattanchavady constituency, ahead of his nearest rival V. Vaithilingam of the Congress.The counting process began on Monday (May 4, 2026), marking the final stage of the electoral battle. Six counting centres have been set up across the Union Territory, which comprises 30 Assembly constituencies spread across Puducherry (23), Karaikal (5), Mahe (1), and Yanam (1).

A total of 294 candidates are in the fray for the elections held on April 9, including Chief Minister Rangasamy. The contest has primarily been between the NDA — comprising AINRC, BJP, AIADMK and LJK — and the INDIA bloc, which includes the Congress, DMK and VCK.
