Amid Coronavirus surge, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra went into self-isolation on Friday after her husband Robert Vadra tested positive for the novel coronavirus. In a tweet, Priyanka Gandhi said she tested negative for coronavirus, but was advised by doctors to self-isolate after exposure to the virus. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said her upcoming rallies in poll-bound states stand cancelled. The Congress leader was slated to visit the poll-bound states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Assam in the coming days.
Meanwhile, India is seeing a surge in its daily new cases of the coronavirus disease. According to health ministry data India recorded 41,466 fresh Covid cases in the las 24 hours and 469 related deaths, taking the infection tally and death toll to 12,303,131 and 163,396 respectively. The ministry further said that Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh reported a steep rise in daily new cases.India's total active caseload has reached 6,14,696. It now comprises 5 per cent of the country's total Positive Cases."A net incline of 30,641 cases recorded from the total active caseload in the last 24 hours," the ministry said. Five states, namely Maharashtra, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Kerala and Punjab cumulatively account for 77.91 per cent of the total active cases in the country."Maharashtra alone accounts for nearly 60 per cent (59.84 per cent) of the total active caseload of the country," it said.
The Pune Divisional Commissioner have imposed a 12-hour night curfew in the city starting Saturday. The night curfew in Pune will start at 6 pm and continue till 6 am and the coronavirus situation will be monitored till next Friday for further steps. Pune district in Maharashtra reported 8,011 new coronavirus cases and 65 deaths on Thursday.Pune has also ordered bars, hotels and restaurants to remain closed for 7 days and only home deliveries will be allowed. No public function, except funerals and weddings will be allowed in Pune in this 7-day period. The Pune authorities have also ordered all public places, cinemas and theatres to remain shut for the next 7 days. City buses will also remanin suspended during this period.
