In France, far right politician and political journalist Eric Zemmour was attacked with an egg as he stepped out of his car during a campaign trail in southwestern France’s Moissac. A political novice, Zemmour announced his bid to enter the presidential race last November. As soon as the politician, who had sparked a raging controversy with his remarks on how children with disabilities should be educated in schools, stepped out of his black car, a man, seemingly in his 70s, popped up right next to him and smashed an egg on the back of his head. A pensioner attacked French far-right presidential candidate Eric Zemmour with a raw egg on Saturday. The 70-year-old man smacked the egg down on Zemmour’s head in the southern commune of Moissac, the local prosecutor’s office said.

The public prosecutor’s office said that Zemmour’s team had said the case should not be reported to the police. However, the pensioner could be forced to take a kind of civics course as a result of his actions. France will elect a new president in two rounds of voting on April 10 and 24. Zemmour is currently polling in third place, at 12.5 per cent, behind incumbent Emmanuel Macron and right-winger Marine Le Pen, at more than 30 per cent and about 18 per cent, respectively.
