President discusses bilateral partnership with Romanian counterpart

President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday held delegation-level talks with her Romanian counterpart Nicusor Dan in Bucharest. The two leaders held productive and forward-looking discussions covering the major dimensions of our bilateral partnership. The President said that India and Romania have shared a warm and enduring friendship for over seven decades, founded on mutual trust, respect and strong people-to-people ties. Over the years, our partnership has steadily grown stronger and is now entering a new phase marked by greater ambition, stronger cooperation and a shared vision for the future.Murmu said that economic cooperation remains an important pillar of the India-Romania partnership. The two leaders agreed to promote trade and investment, strengthen resilient supply chains, and encourage closer collaboration between the business communities of our two countries. They also agreed to work towards doubling our bilateral trade over the next three years. They also exchanged perspectives on regional and global developments, and on multilateral cooperation. Three MoUs for bilateral cooperation in the field of science & technology, sports and establishment of Chair of Indian Studies at University of Bucharest were signed on the occasion.
Earlier, the President arrived in Bucharest, Romania, on the final leg of her three nation visit. After her arrival at the Cotroceni Palace, she was accorded a guard of honour. This is the first State Visit by an Indian President to Romania in nearly three decades. The President’s visit is expected to further deepen India-Romania ties across key sectors, including trade and investment, defence, information technology, renewable energy, education, science and innovation. The visit is also aimed at enhancing cultural and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries. Romania is a valuable partner in the European Union and with the conclusion of India-EU Free Trade Agreement, bilateral economic partnership will be strengthened further in the coming years.
