President Murmu calls for stronger India-North Macedonia ties

President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday called for deeper parliamentary engagement and expanded economic cooperation between India and North Macedonia, describing the European nation as an important partner in a stable, multipolar and prosperous global order. Addressing the Assembly of North Macedonia in Skopje in the presence of President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, President Murmu said India is committed to scaling up its engagement with North Macedonia bilaterally as well as across the wider Southeast European region through greater trade, investment and institutional cooperation.Highlighting the shared democratic values of the two nations, President Murmu stressed the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening bilateral ties. She said interactions between Members of Parliament from both countries help build institutional trust that extends beyond changing political leadership.

Addressing the inaugural session of the India-North Macedonia Business Forum, Murmu said the economic and commercial relationship between the two countries remains a frontier waiting to be fully explored. “Our bilateral trade volume shows a steady positive trajectory, but it represents only a fraction of what is possible,” she said.India and North Macedonia should diversify their economic engagement and set an ambitious target of doubling bilateral trade by the end of this decade, President Droupadi Murmu said.
