Pranavi Urs from Karnataka created history on Saturday by becoming the first Indian woman to win an individual golf gold medal at the Asian Games, holding on to a one-stroke advantage despite a sleepless night and a dramatic final round. The 23-year-old from Mysore finished at 15-under 265 after carding an even-par 70 in the final round, edging China’s Yin Ruoning by one stroke. Singapore’s Shannon Tan won the bronze after a playoff, with both Tan and Ruoning finishing at 14-under 266.

After a crippling triple bogey on the third hole of the final round, Pranavi Urs realigned herself and was soon totally locked into the game. So much so, even when the final putt was holed, she was not sure whether it was for a win or a play-off. Pranavi realised she had become India's first woman golfer to win the Asiad gold only after eventual bronze-winner Shannon Tan of Singapore congratulated her. Recalling those final moments on the 18th green, Pranavi said, "I honestly didn't know I won until Shannon said, 'Well done'. So yeah, I mean, I just knew it was either a putt to win or a putt to force a playoff. All I wanted to do was obviously hole the putt. So I'm glad I could do it." Pranavi’s victory also helped India secure the women’s team silver, alongside Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar, as the Indian trio produced the country’s best-ever women’s golf performance at the Asian Games.
