Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a spirited welcome from the Indian diaspora upon his arrival in Brazil on Saturday, as traditional Indian dance and music filled the air during a cultural event held in Rio de Janeiro. One of the highlights of the evening was a powerful performance inspired by Operation Sindoor, a recent military operation conducted by India.
The celebration, held ahead of the 17th BRICS Summit and Modi's state visit to Brasilia, showcased a dance choreographed around patriotic themes with the song “Saugandh Mujhe Iss Mitti Ki” playing in the background. The performance, which paid tribute to India's valor in the face of terrorism, drew admiration and applause from the Prime Minister. He later posed for photos with the performers and praised the event as "vibrant" and "amazing."

Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, was a significant counter-terror offensive targeting nine terror sites across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) with precision missile strikes. It was India’s response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir that left 26 civilians dead. The operation struck key Jaish-e-Mohammad and Lashkar-e-Taiba bases in Bahawalpur and Muridke.
The cultural tribute comes at a time when PM Modi is participating in the 17th BRICS Summit, where he is expected to deliberate on pressing global issues, including terrorism, climate change, the use of artificial intelligence, health security, and reforms in multilateral institutions.Addressing the BRICS leaders, Modi emphasized the need for a more inclusive and representative global governance system. "The majority of the world’s population is not properly represented in key global institutions," he said during a session on peace and security.
Reflecting India’s long-standing concerns, the BRICS Leaders’ Declaration condemned the Pahalgam attack “in the strongest terms” and called for global action against terrorism. PM Modi stated, “There should be no hesitation in imposing sanctions against terrorists,” and urged for an international order that better reflects the voices of the Global South.
