PM Modi meets Xi Jinping at 26th SCO Summit in Bishkek

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday met Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Bishkek, with the two leaders seen shaking hands and exchanging words as they walked together towards the summit venue.Modi and Xi were among the leaders of SCO member states who gathered in Bishkek for the summit's official group photograph. Russian President Vladimir Putin and Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif were also seen alongside the two leaders in the family photograph.


After posing for the group picture, Modi and Xi briefly interacted before walking side by side towards the event venue. The two leaders were seen engaged in conversation and shook hands during the interaction.The meeting marks a fresh interaction between Modi and Xi at an SCO gathering. The two leaders had last met on the sidelines of the SCO Summit in Tianjin in August 2025.
Earlier, Prime Minister Modi arrived at the summit venue in Bishkek, where he received a warm welcome. His participation comes as India continues to engage with Central Asian countries and work towards strengthening cooperation under the SCO framework.
The SCO currently comprises 10 member states — Belarus, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The grouping also has observer states and dialogue partners, providing a wider platform for regional cooperation.On Monday, Modi held bilateral meetings with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.Modi also attended the opening ceremony of the World Nomad Games in Bishkek on Monday and extended his best wishes to the participating Indian contingent.
