PM Modi, Japanese PM visit semiconductor facility in Sendai

Before leaving for China, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday visited a semiconductor facility in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, along with his Japanese counterpart Shigeru Ishiba, as the two leaders explored avenues for deeper cooperation in building resilient chip supply chains. The leaders toured Tokyo Electron Miyagi Ltd (TEL Miyagi), a leading Japanese company in the semiconductor sector, where PM Modi was briefed on the firm’s role in the global value chain, its manufacturing capabilities, and potential collaborations with India. The visit underscored the complementarity between India’s expanding semiconductor ecosystem and Japan’s strengths in advanced equipment and technology. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation under the Japan–India Semiconductor Supply Chain Partnership, as well as other bilateral frameworks, officials said.

“The joint visit highlighted the shared vision of India and Japan to build robust, resilient and trusted semiconductor supply chains,” a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office said. Later, PM Modi left for China to attend the SCO summit after wrapping up a two-day visit to Japan.
