Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday inaugurated the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show (UPITS-2025) at the India Expo Centre and Mart in Greater Noida, with Russia participating as the partner country. The five-day trade show, themed “Ultimate Sourcing Begins Here”, will run from September 25 to 29 and bring together over 2,400 exhibitors, 1.25 lakh B2B visitors, and 4.5 lakh B2C visitors.
In his inaugural address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that India’s economic growth remains attractive despite global disruptions and uncertainties. The Prime Minister underlined India’s resilience in the face of global headwinds. “Despite the disruptions and uncertainties occurring globally, India’s growth remains impressive. These disruptions don’t deter us; instead, we use them as opportunities to find new directions and explore new avenues. Amidst these disruptions, India is today laying a strong foundation for the decades to come. And our resolve, our mantra, for this is—Atmanirbhar Bharat,” Modi said.

The Prime Minister also emphasised that India’s defence forces want swadeshi and aim to decrease dependency on other countries. “We are developing a vibrant defence sector in India. We are building such ecosystem where every part of our weapons has 'Made in India' inscribed on them. Uttar Pradesh is playing a big role in this,” Modi said.“Soon, production of AK-203 rifle will begin from a factory set up with Russia's help. A defence corridor is also being set up in Uttar Pradesh. Production of several weapons, including BrahMos missiles, has already started,” he added. This year, Russia is participating in the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show as the partner country. PM Modi said that Russia's participation means that with this trade show, India is “strengthening the time-tested partnership” with Russia.The Prime Minister also visited stalls at the exhibition, interacting with artisans and women entrepreneurs, while emphasising the importance of self-reliance and innovation in strengthening India’s global trade presence.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, addressing the event, described the trade show as a testament to India’s Swadeshi model and the vision of “Make in India, Make for the World.” CM Yogi Adityanath said, “This is the third edition of UP International Trade Show. In this event, more than 550 buyers from 80 countries will be participating in it. More than 2,250 exhibitors from across all 75 districts of UP are participating as partners.” He added that the state has emerged as the GI tag capital, with 60 GI-tagged products on display and applications in progress for 75 more. “We have provided training and toolkits to more than four lakh artisans, enhancing their skills. Invest UP has already received project proposals worth Rs40 lakh crore, with work started on projects worth Rs12 lakh crore,” the Chief Minister noted.

Highlighting the boost from recent economic reforms, Yogi added that the trade show was breathing new life into the state’s markets and One District One Product (ODOP) sector. “Consumers have rushed to the markets in the past few days, bringing fresh vibrancy to our industries,” he said.The UPITS-2025 offers a platform to showcase the strength of Uttar Pradesh’s traditional crafts, small businesses, and new-age enterprises on a global stage, while also deepening India’s trade ties with Russia and other participating countries.The Prime Minister's push for self-reliance comes amid some global trade barriers India is facing, such as steep tariffs by the United States and President Donald Trump’s H-1B visa fee hike.
