Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday welcomed Finland President Alexander Stubb to India, expressing confidence that the Finnish leader’s State Visit will give fresh momentum to India–Finland ties across strategic and economic sectors.In a message posted on social media, the Prime Minister said he fully shared President Stubb’s optimism that the visit would “strengthen and elevate” bilateral relations. Modi also said he was looking forward to his meeting with the Finnish President and to his keynote address at the Raisina Dialogue 2026, underlining the importance of deepening engagement on pressing regional and global challenges.

President Stubb is on a State Visit to India from March 4 to 7 at the invitation of Prime Minister Modi. He will serve as Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker at the 11th edition of the Raisina Dialogue in New Delhi, India’s flagship conference on geopolitics and geo-economics, where leaders and policymakers deliberate on global governance, security and economic resilience.According to the External Affairs Ministry, this is President Stubb’s first visit to India in his current capacity. He is accompanied by a high-level delegation that includes Ministers, senior officials and prominent business leaders, reflecting Helsinki’s intent to expand engagement with New Delhi across multiple sectors.
During the visit, Prime Minister Modi and President Stubb are scheduled to hold wide-ranging discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in areas such as trade and investment, digital innovation, clean energy, education and emerging technologies. The two leaders will also exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual interest, including collaboration in multilateral forums. The Prime Minister will host a lunch in honour of the visiting dignitary.President Stubb will also call on Droupadi Murmu. Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar are expected to meet the Finnish leader during his stay in the capital.
Following his engagements in New Delhi, President Stubb will travel to Mumbai, where he will meet the Governor and Chief Minister of Maharashtra. He is also scheduled to interact with Indian industry leaders at an India–Finland business event and address students at the University of Mumbai, highlighting the emphasis on economic partnerships and people-to-people exchanges.India and Finland share warm and friendly relations rooted in democratic values, rule of law and a shared commitment to sustainable development. Finland remains a valued partner for India within the European Union and the Nordic region, particularly in areas such as clean technologies, education, digital transformation and innovation.The visit comes close on the heels of Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo’s recent trip to India for the AI Impact Summit, signalling a sustained push from both sides to broaden cooperation in frontier technologies and global governance.
