PM Modi arrives in Brazil for 17th BRICS Summit Talks

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday to participate in the 17th BRICS Summit and embark on a state visit to strengthen India-Brazil bilateral ties. The visit comes at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.PM Modi landed at Galeão International Airport, marking the start of a two-leg engagement in Brazil. This marks his fourth visit to the South American nation. During his stay, the Prime Minister will take part in key deliberations of the expanded BRICS grouping and is also scheduled to visit Brasília for a state-level dialogue.
Taking to social media platform X,PM Modi stated, “Landed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where I will participate in the BRICS Summit and then head to its capital, Brasília, for a State visit at the invitation of President Lula. Looking forward to a productive round of meetings and interactions during this visit.”

The Prime Minister was warmly received by members of the Indian diaspora in Rio de Janeiro. A cultural performance greeted him on arrival, evoking a strong patriotic sentiment. PM Modi interacted with the attendees and appreciated the community’s enthusiastic welcome, setting a positive tone for his engagements ahead.On the sidelines of the BRICS Summit, PM Modi is expected to hold bilateral meetings with several global leaders, further enhancing India’s diplomatic engagements with emerging and established economies alike.
This year’s summit is the first to take place after the expansion of the BRICS bloc. Originally comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, the group has now been expanded to include Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, Indonesia, and Iran—making it a significant global coalition representing the voice of the Global South.
PM Modi's Brazil visit follows his multi-nation diplomatic tour, including earlier stops in Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, and Argentina. On July 2-3, he visited Ghana, where he addressed the country’s Parliament at the invitation of President John Dramani Mahama. He then travelled to Trinidad and Tobago for engagements with President Christine Carla Kangaloo and Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar.The visit to Argentina on July 5 was historically significant, marking the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country in 57 years.
