The 94th Academy Awards ceremony returns this year to its regular home at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Will Smith won the first Oscar of his career for his performance in King Richard. Jessica Chastain won Best Actress for The Eyes of Tammy Faye. The best Supporting actress award was won by Ariana DeBose for West Side Story. CODA was the big winner of the night winning the Best Picture award. The film was nominated in three categories and won all three. The other two are Best adapted screenplay and Best supporting actor for Troy Kotsur. Jane Campion won the Best Director Award for the film The Power of the Dog. Ms. Campion is the first woman to ever compete in the category twice. In 1994, she was nominated for The Piano. The Oscar award for best-supporting actor went to Troy Kotsur for his role in “CODA.” He is the first deaf male actor ever to be nominated and to win an Oscar.
Dune, the sci-fi film from AT&T Inc.’s Warner Bros., picked up best achievement in sound and three other awards at the Oscars on Sunday after a number of awards were handed out before the main event. Three female comedians -- Regina Hall, Amy Schumer and Wanda Sykes -- will preside over the ceremony, after the academy previously experimented with no hosts.The film Power of the Dog is nominated for 12 awards, more than any other picture, followed by Dune with 10 nominations and West Side Story and Belfast with seven each. Earlier, a message during Oscars 2022 read, "We ask you to support Ukraine in any way you are able. #StandWithUkraine." In another message, the needs of the Ukrainians were acknowledged. It read, "While film is an important avenue for us to express our humanity in times of conflict, the reality is millions of families in Ukraine need food, medical care, clean water, and emergency services. Resources are scarse, and we - collectively as a global community - can do more."
