Madhya Pradesh Chief Secretary Anurag Jain has directed officials to accelerate ongoing development works in Orchha and ensure high-quality execution to transform the historic town into a world-class tourist destination. He also instructed authorities to prepare an integrated master plan to support the city’s long-term economic and social growth.During his visit to Orchha on Sunday,Jain inspected multiple construction and restoration projects and emphasised timely completion by all implementing agencies. He offered prayers at the Shri Ram Raja Temple and reviewed the condition of several key heritage sites, including Jehangir Mahal, Jhujar Mahal, Rai Praveen Mahal, Hardaul Vatika, and Tulsi Ghat.The Chief Secretary said that the planned vendor zone must be designed to ensure smooth movement for tourists. He also called for a detailed action plan for hosting the Bundelkhand Cultural Festival, drawing inspiration from the Khajuraho Festival.
At the archaeological park, Jain instructed officials to expedite the preparation of the Orchha Master Plan and ensure active participation of local citizens in PPP-mode projects to create employment opportunities. Reviewing progress at Kanchana Ghat, he directed the swift completion of the new bridge over the Betwa River and the handover of the pink toilet’s operations to a local self-help group.Highlighting the need to preserve Orchha's heritage structures, Jain stressed regular maintenance of protected monuments and improved tourist facilities. He also reviewed the development works at Hotel Betwa Retreat and other sites, advising the creation of a tourism-focused work plan aligned with current footfall and future prospects.He further instructed that all hotels in the town should be star-rated, Bundeli art, terracotta products, and local paintings should be marketed effectively, and adventure tourism should be promoted. Jahangir Mahal, he noted, should be developed in the style of a Bundelkhand Cultural Centre.District officials and consultants accompanied the Chief Secretary during the inspection.
