The US Congress on Thursday passed President Donald Trump's sweeping USD 4.5 trillion ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ of tax cuts and spending reductions, with the Republican-led House narrowly passing the bill 218–214 and sending it to him for signing. The vote marks a major legislative victory for the president in his second term, securing funding for his immigration crackdown, making his 2017 tax cuts permanent, and delivering new tax breaks he pledged during his 2024 campaign. The White House announced that President Trump will sign the bill into law on Friday at 5 pm. The nearly 900-page legislation includes tax breaks, spending cuts, and other Republican priorities, including new money for national defence and deportations.

Trump’s new tax and spending bill, dubbed the ‘Big Beautiful Bill,’ is a sweeping legislative package that combines permanent tax cuts with major boosts in federal spending, particularly on defence, border security, and energy, while making cuts to social safety net programs. The bill underlined the president's dominance over the Republican Party, which had been wracked by misgivings over a text that will balloon the national debt and gut health and welfare support. A small group of opponents in the party finally fell into line after Speaker Mike Johnson worked through the night to corral dissenters in the House of Representatives behind the "One Big Beautiful Bill." The bill is crucial as it contains about $4.5 trillion in tax cuts. It would boost the $2,000 child tax credit to $2,200. Millions of families at lower income levels would not get the full credit.
One of the most prominent features of the bill is a USD 350 billion border and national security plan. This includes USD 46 billion to expand the US-Mexico border wall, USD 45 billion for 100,000 migrant detention beds, and a hiring blitz for immigration enforcement, including 10,000 new ICE officers, each receiving a USD 10,000 signing bonus.
