President Droupadi Murmu lauded NIMHANS for its commendable work in the area of mental health and Neurosciences. Speaking on the occasion of commemorating the Golden Jubilee Celebration of NIMHANS in Bengaluru on Friday she said NIMHANS today is an undisputed leader in mental health and neurosciences globally. She pointed out that the area of mental care faced challenges of social stigma and aspersions in society. But today, she noted that institutions such as NIMHANS have provided an opportunity for patients with mental disorders to get quality care. She pointed out that the Tele Manas services started by NIMHANS are assisting mental health care to reach the nook and corner of the country. She also appreciated the efforts of the Institute in integrating the ancient knowledge of Yoga and Ayurveda into their healthcare facilities. The President said Corona epidemic, loneliness of elders and vulnerability in women have led to much mental distress and anxiety and the institution of NIMHANS provides them with necessary clinical solutions.

Union Minister for Health J P Nadda appreciated the advance made by NIMHANS in treating strokes, preventing suicides and helping those with substance abuse. He informed that NIMHANS is also providing quality education in their area of expertise. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah informed about the collaboration of the State Health Department with NIMHANS in providing mental health care to the population. Siddaramaiah said, for the past 5 decades, NIMHANS has emerged as a symbol of excellence and hope, making remarkable contributions to mental health and neurosciences in India and beyond. He further said that “in its decade-long journey as an Institute of National Importance, NIMHANS has become a global leader in clinical care, research and education, shaping mental health policies and inspiring practices worldwide.” Murmu also inaugurated and dedicated various facilities like Psychiatry Specialty Block, Central Laboratory Campus, Bheema hostel, Next generation 3T MRI Scanner, and DSA system to the nation.
