Nifty below 25,640, Sensex down 555 pts amid geopolitical crisis

The Indian share market traded lower for the second consecutive day on Tuesday, with the Nifty hitting a nearly three-month low amid selling pressure in IT, oil & gas and banking stocks.At close, the Sensex was down 555.23 points or 0.73 percent at 75,577.58, and the Nifty was down 144.05 points or 0.61 percent at 23,635.10.
Bharat Electronics, ONGC, HUL, Eicher Motors and Adani Ports were the top gainers on the Nifty, while losers included ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, SBI Life Insurance, L&T, UltraTech Cement.On the sectoral front,Private Bank index shed 1%, Oil & Gas index down 0.67%, Nifty Bank down 0.5% and IT index shed 0.37%, while Media index added 1.3%, Pharma index rose 0.7% and FMCG index gained 0.35%, according to agency reports.The broader market outperformed the main indices with Nifty midcap and smallcap indices ended marginally higher.
Rupee Close:
On 8 Sep'26,the Indian rupee fell 28 paise to close at 94.84 (provisional) against the US dollar on Tuesday as geopolitical tensions in West Asia and rising Brent crude prices nearing $99 per barrel weighed on investor sentiment.Forex traders said the Indian rupee declined on a surge in crude oil prices amid fresh attacks on Aramco's facilities by Yemen's Houthis. Moreover, rising geopolitical tensions in West Asia and a weak trend in domestic equities further pressured the rupee.
